Fertility

When is it time to go to a fertility clinic?

Are you struggling to conceive? Planning for a family without success can be disheartening. You get your hopes up, only to be let down again and again.

If you have been trying to fall pregnant with no luck, it might be time to explore your fertility at a fertility clinic.

When is it time to see a fertility specialist?

  • If you’re under 35 and have been trying for over a year

  • If you’re over 35 and have been trying for over 6 months

  • You have a medical issue that may be affecting your chances of conception

Reasons you’re not falling pregnant

One of the frustrating things about fertility is that many factors contribute to it.

Our lifestyles affect our overall health, as well as our fertility. Consulting your GP is a good starting point. They can identify any health issues that may be affecting your fertility and conduct basic tests.

If you’ve ruled out these basic factors, it may be time to explore what else could be making conception difficult.

Some causes of infertility in women include:

  • Ovulation dysfunction e.g. Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)

  • Tubal damage

  • Endometriosis

Perth fertility tests

If you’ve already spoken with your GP about your hopes of getting pregnant, they may recommend a fertility test from a gynaecologist with specific experience in fertility medicine.

I see patients in Claremont at the Perth fertility clinic, Fertility WA. We apply an evidence-based approach to fertility, while giving each patient individualised care.

At Fertility WA, I work with you to find possible reasons as to why you’re unable to conceive. As a gynaecologist and obstetrician, I’m able to assess your reproductive health, make a diagnosis, and recommend treatment.

The following tests may be requested:

  • Cycle tracking

  • Pelvic ultrasound

  • Fallopian tube patency test

  • AMH blood test

  • Laparoscopy/hysteroscopy

If you’ve been unsuccessful in your attempts to conceive, first discuss the issue with your GP. Once you’ve done initial tests, you can request a referral to see a gynaecologist with specific experience in fertility.

Having had two children of my own, I feel honoured to be able to help you experience the joy of having a child.
